WHAT'S HAPPENING ACROSS
THE BOROUGH

Clay Club on Tour

Between November 2025 and March 2026, Everyday Wigan delivered creative pottery sessions for people living with dementia and disabilities in residential homes across the borough.

Sessions were designed to bring participants together to explore creativity, reduce social isolation, and improve theirmental health and wellbeing.

The artist who led the sessions adopted accessible approaches to memory and storytelling to ensure that all participants felt included and could engage with clay making - regardless of their ability. Residents in the later stages of dementia, responded strongly to indirect expressions of memory, such as texture, repetition, rhythm, shapes and patterns.

Careworkers noted that residents with mobility and dexterityissues felt brighter after taking part and expressed pride in what they had made. This sense of accomplishment and increased self-confidence had a direct impact on their mood and wellbeing long after the session had finished.

Health professionals and cultural organisations all recognise the role that creativity has on our health and wellbeing. Creativity nurtures residents’ wellbeing, it sparks connection, and supports a borough where everyone thrives.
